WonderRoot Creative ReUse

Storage World is very happy to have many local businesses utilize our storage facilities. In future blog posts, we will spotlight some of the businesses and organizations that have storage units at Storage World. This month we are pointing the spotlight on WonderRoot Creative Reuse.

WonderRoot Creative Reuse is one of the many projects of WonderRoot. The organization is an Atlanta based non-profit organization with a mission to unite artists and community to inspire positive social change. The organization believes that art is an agent of change and that by empowering people with the sources and ability to create art, you empower people with the means to create change. WonderRoot was founded in 2004 in response to Atlanta’s need for an organization to unite artists and community advocacy. You can find out more about the group via their social media pages: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

WonderRoot Creative Reuse is a program that promotes artistic expression, environmental awareness and community through the collection and redistribution of salvaged material for creative reuse. The group collects material that can be used for arts and crafts such as art supplies, yarn, fabric and even random items like bottle caps, wine corks and travel and nature magazines, which have great photos that can be used for collage materials. All of these items are donated by people who don’t have a need for them anymore. WonderRoot Creative ReUse repurposes the donated items while keeping them from being thrown away. The materials are used in workshops and outreach programs such as after-school programs, schools and summer camps. The materials are also donated to art teachers and other non-profit programs in the Atlanta area such as: Refugee Sewing Society in Clarkston, Georgia, Re:Loom in Decatur,  Georgia and Trees Atlanta.

The group also sells the donated materials for fund-raisers that are held throughout the year. WonderRoot Creative Reuse is participating in the Atlanta Mini Maker Fair on October 26th at Georgia Tech. Keep up to date on WonderRoot Creative Reuse events via their blog, as well as WonderRoot’s social media pages.

Storage World is happy to support WonderRoot Creative Reuse by donating a storage unit for the program. If you are interested in donating materials for this great organization, you can drop off the materials at our 3 locations in Decatur, Jonesboro or Stockbridge.
