Airbnb Atlanta Tips

  1. Keep Your Home Clean: By no means do your guests expect to be staying in a 5-star hotel, but they do expect to have clean living quarters. It is essential that you either thoroughly clean between every stay or hire someone to do the cleaning. Bad reviews on your page can lead to a decrease in the amount of people looking to book your home.
  2. Be Hospitable: Personal touches go a long way. Leave a welcome basket out for your guests. In the basket put snacks, fruit, beverages and other small items.
  3. Be a Resource: Your guests are likely new to the area, or at the very least, not as familiar with it as a local is. Offer recommendations for restaurants, sites and other cool locations. Giving your travelers tips can go a long way to make their trip a successful one. In your initial contact, ask questions like, “what brings you to the city?” or “what are you looking forward to the most about the city?”. This way you’ll be able to offer them recommendations based on their interests.
  4. Be Honest: A sure way to get a negative guest review and experience is to embellish or not be honest when describing your home and neighborhood. Include a list of house rules on your profile. For example, if you allow guests, provide free Wi-Fi and state if smoking is permitted. Additionally, when communicating with and accepting money from a customer, only do it on the Airbnb app.

How to Store Halloween Decorations

How to Store Halloween Decorations in the Atlanta, Georgia area

More than 171 million Americans planned to take part in Halloween festivities this year with estimated spending expected to reach $8.4 billion. Nearly half of the people questioned in the National Retail Federation’s annual survey planned to decorate their homes – accounting for more than a quarter of that staggering total. That’s a lot of cobwebs, creepy clown masks and cauldrons!

But now that the party has died down, where does all that stuff go? Read on for some tips on cleaning and decluttering to prevent your house from being haunted by the ghosts of holidays past.

Designated Halloween Storage Containers

Sure, it’s exciting to be surprised by a random holiday when you open an assortment of nondescript boxes. However, your setup and cleanup are both much simpler when you have clearly labeled or color-coded containers.

● Sealed plastic containers are good for keeping moisture, bugs and other nasty surprises from ruining your decorations.

● Maximize your space by storing smaller items insider larger, hollow ones.

● Use bubble wrap to protect fragile items.

● Label the containers with a complete list of contents.

● If stacking multiple containers, make sure the heaviest, most structurally sound box or bin is on the bottom.

Storing Halloween Decorations that Hang

Some decorations need to hang in order to protect and preserve their shape. You can make the most of a hook or rack by hanging multiple items one in front of the other. If your items are made with fabric or other sensitive materials, you may want to consider a sealable garment bag.

Costumes and masks could fit into this category as well. Many times, they will include a label with care instructions. To make sure you look your costumes look their best next year, pay special attention to those recommendations.

Other Notes On Halloween Storage

  • Light strands can be wrapped around ordinary extension cord wraps in order to keep them tangle free. If you’ll be stacking multiple reels, use a cloth or padding to insulate the wraps from one another and their surroundings.
  • Glass, fabric and other materials can be sensitive to sunlight. To avoid fading, make sure you have these covered with acid-free tissue or packing materials like bubble wrap.
  • Many of these items are also vulnerable to extreme temperatures and humidity–making your attic, basement or garage poor choices for long-term storage. Consider one of our climate-controlled storage units to help preserve the longevity of your decorations.
  • Storage World has a wide variety of storage options throughout the Atlanta area. Talk to one of our self-storage professionals to find a solution that fits your needs today.

Playing it safe on Halloween

Dressing up in spooky costumes and going trick-or-treating is something that almost everyone looks forward to. Those were some of my best memories growing up. Whether you are going to a fall festival or going door to door there are ways to play it safe and still have a blast. The American Academy of Pediatrics has a wonderful website with Halloween safety tips. Read over it before going out and about with your children. Some of the ways to play it safe are to make sure you wear lighter colors or reflectors so you can be seen in the dark, an adult should always accompany children under 12, stay on well lit streets and only go to homes with a porch light on. When you get home and dump out all the goodies take a look for packages that have been tampered with. It is rare to find one opened but it is always best to take a peek just in case.

If you aren’t interested in going door to door in your neighborhood, here are some Halloween events you might be interested in:

Tenant Insurance

Are your valuables safely stored? As much as we would like to think our belongings are packed and organized as safely as possible at the safest and cleanest storage facility in town, there is still the possibility of a natural disaster or tradgey that could strike at any time. For added security, it is important to also have some type of insurance on these items. Most homeowners and rental insurance policies do not cover items stored outside of the home. Before you chose to store, check your insurance policies to see if you will need additional coverage. If you are not covered, it would be a great idea to get tenant insurance through your self storage facility. It is affordable and the cost can be added to your monthly rental payment.

Storage World and Storage World on Wheels offer tenant insurance through StorSmart Insurance. There are pamphlets and information available to you at each of our locations. Tenant insurance will cover the value of the items insured at today’s value up to the amount of insurance coverage purchased. Our tenant insurance covers damage from: wind, fire, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, vandalism, burglary (with a visible sign of forced entry), lightning, smoke, hail, building collapse and explosion. It does not cover items of higher value such as jewelry, antiques, artwork, important documents, firearms or furs.

Ask any of our super knowledgeable associates at Storage World about tenant insurance and they will be happy to explain how it works. The claim process is simple and can be done online or over the phone with a StorSmart representative at 888-545-SMART.

We, at Storage World, pride ourselves in providing top-notch service to our customers. Stop by your nearest location and let us help you with all of your storage needs.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Let us all remember those who lost their lives on this tragic day in history.  On September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m., the first plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Then, 18 minutes later Flight 175 crashed into the south tower. At 9:45 a.m., the pentagon was struck by Flight 77. The fourth flight was highjacked and then crashed into a rural field in Western Pennsylvania. Close to 4,000 civilians and first responders were killed and about 10,000 people were wounded in these events. This day in American history will never be forgotten. Like most of you, I still remember exactly what I was doing at the time of the terrorist attacks. I was sitting in Biology class on that tragic Tuesday. It was a terrifying day, one that will never be forgotten. The news showed it all, the whole country was shaken to its core. No one knew when or where the next attack would occur.

President George W. Bush addressed the nation that evening declaring, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve…We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.”

September 11 with always be a day that ignites fear and mourning but most importantly, American pride! On that day and for years after, Americans joined together to help one another pick up the pieces of their lives and recover from the attacks of the day. Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist following cannot break the American spirit! Let us never forget what this country can do when we all come together as one!

We, at Storage World, would like to hear how you remember this day in September. Comment below and let us know where you were at the time of the attacks or your recollections of American pride in the days following.

God Bless America!

Giant Panda Twins Turn One!

Guess what is happening today? The twins are turning one! Mei Lun and Mei Huan the giant panda twins have a birthday this week. These adorable babies have a big day in store. According to the Atlanta Zoo website, “the cubs will be going on exhibit around 11 a.m., so that way they will be awake to explore their very first ice cakes before they melt.” Today would be a great day to visit the zoo and to celebrate with Mei Lun and Mei Huan! They are the first panda twins to be born in the United States since 1987. If you can’t make it out today, be sure to watch them on the Panda Cam.

The Atlanta Zoo has a great website if you are wanting to learn more about Giant Pandas. They are native to China and due to farming and land clearing they are now restricted to the mountain regions. They have become a critically endangered species. According to the Atlanta Zoo, there are only 1,600 still left in the wild. Pandas can live up to 35 years in a zoo but they are still unsure about their lifespan in the wild.

Please let us know how it was or send pictures if you are able to celebrate with these cuties!
