Tenant Insurance

Are your valuables safely stored? As much as we would like to think our belongings are packed and organized as safely as possible at the safest and cleanest storage facility in town, there is still the possibility of a natural disaster or tradgey that could strike at any time. For added security, it is important to also have some type of insurance on these items. Most homeowners and rental insurance policies do not cover items stored outside of the home. Before you chose to store, check your insurance policies to see if you will need additional coverage. If you are not covered, it would be a great idea to get tenant insurance through your self storage facility. It is affordable and the cost can be added to your monthly rental payment.

Storage World and Storage World on Wheels offer tenant insurance through StorSmart Insurance. There are pamphlets and information available to you at each of our locations. Tenant insurance will cover the value of the items insured at today’s value up to the amount of insurance coverage purchased. Our tenant insurance covers damage from: wind, fire, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, vandalism, burglary (with a visible sign of forced entry), lightning, smoke, hail, building collapse and explosion. It does not cover items of higher value such as jewelry, antiques, artwork, important documents, firearms or furs.

Ask any of our super knowledgeable associates at Storage World about tenant insurance and they will be happy to explain how it works. The claim process is simple and can be done online or over the phone with a StorSmart representative at 888-545-SMART.

We, at Storage World, pride ourselves in providing top-notch service to our customers. Stop by your nearest location and let us help you with all of your storage needs.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Let us all remember those who lost their lives on this tragic day in history.  On September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m., the first plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Then, 18 minutes later Flight 175 crashed into the south tower. At 9:45 a.m., the pentagon was struck by Flight 77. The fourth flight was highjacked and then crashed into a rural field in Western Pennsylvania. Close to 4,000 civilians and first responders were killed and about 10,000 people were wounded in these events. This day in American history will never be forgotten. Like most of you, I still remember exactly what I was doing at the time of the terrorist attacks. I was sitting in Biology class on that tragic Tuesday. It was a terrifying day, one that will never be forgotten. The news showed it all, the whole country was shaken to its core. No one knew when or where the next attack would occur.

President George W. Bush addressed the nation that evening declaring, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve…We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.”

September 11 with always be a day that ignites fear and mourning but most importantly, American pride! On that day and for years after, Americans joined together to help one another pick up the pieces of their lives and recover from the attacks of the day. Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist following cannot break the American spirit! Let us never forget what this country can do when we all come together as one!

We, at Storage World, would like to hear how you remember this day in September. Comment below and let us know where you were at the time of the attacks or your recollections of American pride in the days following.

God Bless America!

Water Safety Tips

inflatable ring in poolWith summer here so many of you will be spending more time in and around water. We here at Storage World want you to stay safe this summer. We found that the American Red Cross is a great resource for water safety.  According to the them, “The best thing you can do to help your family stay safe is to enroll in age-appropriate swim lessons. Contact the Training Support Center at 1-800-RED-CROSS or support@redcrosstraining.org.”

The Red Cross has the following safety tips for when you are in or around water:

Make Water Safety Your Priority. You can do this by swimming in areas with a lifeguard, always swim with a buddy, make sure you wear a lifejacket if you are boating, and avoid alcohol.

Prevent Unsupervised Access to the Water. Put a fence around your pool with a gate, or cover it if it is an above ground pool. Make it inaccessible to others when you are not around.

Maintain Constant Supervision. Watch your children even if there is a lifeguard and always stay an arms length away from small children.

Know What to Do in an Emergency. Always check the pool first if someone is missing and then call 911. Every second in the water counts. It’s a great idea to enroll in a CPR class. You never know when you may need it.

How much do you really know about water safety? Take the following quiz to find out.  Red Cross Water Safety Quiz

It would be helpful to print the following safety tip sheets to share with your friends and family. They can be downloaded from the Red Cross website as well.   http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/water-safety

Tornado Safety

With all of this bad weather lately, it is important for us to be prepared for Earth’s most violent storm, the tornado. Tornadoes are very serious in our area; the warnings should never be taken lightly. We all know too well that they can hit in seconds with deadly force and can destroy whole towns in the matter of minutes. If the weather starts to turn severe be sure to tune in to your local weather channel or radio.

There are two types of tornado alerts, a watch and a warning. A tornado watch means the weather is favorable for a tornado to form. Stay tuned to the radio or local news for updates. A tornado warning means one has been a sighted or picked up on the Doppler radar and you need to seek shelter immediately. We bought a weather radio that alerts us if there is any severe weather or flooding in our county. You can purchase one at Walgreens, Walmart or Target. It helps us to sleep better at night knowing the alarm will sound if we need to take cover.

Having a plan is key for safety. Tornadoes strike fast and you have to be ready! Have a family safe spot already picked out in your home where you and your family can seek shelter; preferably a small closet or bathroom on an interior wall with no windows. Cover yourselves with pillows or a mattress if possible. Bike helmets and shoes are great to wear to prevent injuries from debris. A car is never a safe place; you should find a nearby sturdy building or the lowest spot on the ground and lie flat with your hands covering your face.

A fantastic resource and guide for thunderstorm and tornado safety can be found here at the National Weather Service website:

Stay safe, Storage World Followers!

5 Storage Tips for Mobile Storage Containers

Storage World on Wheels mobile storage trucks

Storage World on Wheels containers are secure, dry, and safe, and offer a convenient way for you to store your belongings on a temporary basis. You can also have a mobile container delivered directly to your home or business, so you won’t have to rent a truck or move all of your belongings yourself. Whether you are packing a mobile container delivered to your door or packing one up ‘on site’, there are several key things you should remember. These tips are also great for storing in a mobile container or a regular self storage unit. The tips will help you optimize the space that is in your mobile storage container.

1. Store large furniture in the back of the container Large items of furniture should always be placed towards the back of the storage container. This will maximize the storage space in the container. Where possible, disassemble furniture, such as tables and bed frames, to fill in any gaps, and always keep instructions with them to help you put them back together. If you are storing chairs, stack them up so that the seats are lying on each other like you’re putting together a puzzle. Also, place couches and mattresses vertically in the storage container to optimize space. Put items that you will need to access more frequently towards the front of the storage container.

2. Wash clothing and other fabrics before storage Any fabrics should be washed and dried before you put them into storage. Failing to do so can lead to pest infestations which can ruin your clothing, curtains or linens. Try to pack malleable possessions such as clothing last. They can be used to fill in any gaps if you are limited on space, as well as being easily accessible if you need to get them out. Do not pack clothing in plastic bags as moisture can build up over time and damage the clothing.

3. Use boxes for storing It is a good idea to pack belongings into sturdy boxes. As these have rigid square shapes, boxes are very easy to stack, meaning that little space will be wasted. With delicate items, leave a little bit of empty space in each box and fill it with bubble wrap to act as protection.

4. Clean appliances thoroughly before placing in storage Always clean kitchen and electrical appliances and dry them thoroughly before placing them in storage. Leave refrigerator and freezer doors slightly open in storage for good air circulation. As with larger items of furniture, appliances should be kept towards the back.

5. Keep an inventory list Label boxes with their contents and keep an inventory list to cross reference when you are moving the items out of storage. If there are any items you may need to access, keep this in mind and try to keep them towards the front of the mobile container.

Storage World on Wheels, Your Mobile Storage Solution

Storage World on Wheels mobile storage trucks

Self Storage is a great solution for families and businesses in need of a place to store items. We all know about the traditional form of self storage with conventional or indoor climate controlled storage units. Storage World offers great local storage solutions at our 3 Atlanta area locations. Storage World takes self storage one step further by offering a mobile storage solution, Storage World on Wheels. A mobile storage solution, for either personal or business storage, is a great idea for many reasons. For example, if you are remodeling or having restoration work done at your home, you can easily store your personal belongings in a mobile storage unit. For businesses that have seasonal sales, storing their off-season inventory in a mobile storage unit at one of our facilities and then having the container returned in time for the next season’s business can help de-clutter storage rooms.

Storage World on Wheels makes the moving and storage process as simple as possible by allowing renters to pack the container and then call Wheels to move it. The process is very simple:

1. Storage World on Wheels delivers the mobile storage container to your home or business.

2. You can easily pack your belongings in the container.

3. Storage World on Wheels will pick up the container when you are ready and store it at one of our 3 locations or move the container wherever you would need us to take it.

The storage containers are placed on ground level, which allows for easy access to the unit when it is being packed. Once the container is ready for pick-up, Storage World on Wheel’s horizontal lift trucks gently lifts the containers on the truck. The storage containers can be moved to one of our 3 storage locations in Decatur, Stockbridge or Jonesboro or taken to your new home within our service area. If you are storing your container at one of our locations, you can access your stored items during our regular gate hours of 6am to 10pm-7 days a week using your digital gate code. Your container will have your lock and you will not have to make a reservation to access your storage unit.

Getting a quote for mobile storage is very easy and can be completed in 3 easy steps online or you can call or stop in to our 3 locations for more information. Using mobile storage is easy to do and a very smart way to store.
