Memorial Day weekend is considered the official start of the summer season. Around the country, people host parties or barbecues and get ready to welcome in the steamy, warmer weather. Plus, there are usually city ceremonies, festivals and other Memorial Day events taking place to celebrate the long weekend. Of course, you also can’t forget about all the big sales at retail stores and car dealerships!
It’s important to keep in mind, however, that Memorial Day is actually about more than barbecues and sales; it’s a day to honor those who have fallen while serving our country. Whatever your plans include this weekend, don’t forget to take part in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm, in which all Americans are asked to pause for a moment in an act of national unity.
