Back to School

The first day of school is right around the corner! It’s hard to believe summer is almost over. Back to school shopping was always something I loved to do but now looking back I see how it can be a nightmare for some parents. Trying to hunt down the perfect color folders and the cutest new backpack while battling the crowd might not be very fun for some.

This coming weekend would be a really good time to go shopping for clothing, computers and school supplies. August 1-2 is Georgia’s Sales Tax Holiday.  According to the Georgia Department of Revenue’s fact-sheet, During the sales tax holiday, the following items will be exempt:

  • School supplies purchased for noncommercial use with a sales price of $20.00 or less per item.
  • Clothing (including footwear) with a sales price of $100.00 or less per item. The exemption excludes clothing accessories such as jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches, and watchbands.
  • Computers, computer components, and prewritten software purchased for noncommercial home or personal use with a sales price of $1000 or less per item.
  • Click here to view the fact sheet.

Here is a list of school start dates by county.

Relevant Church will be giving away book bags with school supplies such as paper, pencils, folders, crayons, etc. Each child needing a book bag will need to be present. This will take place on August 2nd from 10:00-11:30 AM at Locust Grove City Hall. To learn more call (770)957-5043 or check out Locust Grove’s website: www.locustgrove-ga.gov. Thank you Relevant Church! What a great way to serve the community and help those in need.

We at Storage World hope that you have smooth transition back to school! Remember to store your pool supplies and summer items with us! A 5×5 storage unit would be perfect for this. Call one of our friendly associates to see what kind of deal we have going on.

Giant Panda Twins Turn One!

Guess what is happening today? The twins are turning one! Mei Lun and Mei Huan the giant panda twins have a birthday this week. These adorable babies have a big day in store. According to the Atlanta Zoo website, “the cubs will be going on exhibit around 11 a.m., so that way they will be awake to explore their very first ice cakes before they melt.” Today would be a great day to visit the zoo and to celebrate with Mei Lun and Mei Huan! They are the first panda twins to be born in the United States since 1987. If you can’t make it out today, be sure to watch them on the Panda Cam.

The Atlanta Zoo has a great website if you are wanting to learn more about Giant Pandas. They are native to China and due to farming and land clearing they are now restricted to the mountain regions. They have become a critically endangered species. According to the Atlanta Zoo, there are only 1,600 still left in the wild. Pandas can live up to 35 years in a zoo but they are still unsure about their lifespan in the wild.

Please let us know how it was or send pictures if you are able to celebrate with these cuties!

Happy Birthday, Mei Lun and Mei Huan!

Fourth of July Events in Atlanta

Fourth of July weekend is here! Happy 238th Birthday, America! Have no fear if you haven’t already made plans for an Independence Day celebration. We have found several fun activities right here in the Atlanta area to share with you.

Centennial Olympic Park is having their annual Fourth of July Celebration. Gates open at 6pm with featured musical guest “JFly” and “Taylor Hicks”. Firework show begins at 9pm. Click the link below to find out more. http://www.centennialpark.com/index.php/plan-your-visit/event-calendar/springsummer-events/4th-of-july

My personal favorite Fourth of July celebration is at the Georgia Aquarium. Here is what they have to say about the event, “This Fourth of July, celebrate with awesome beer, food, live music and fun! Red White & Brew, which benefits Georgia Aquarium’s education initiatives, will be hosted in Oceans Ballroom and on the Aquarium’s parking deck rooftop with the city’s best views of the Centennial Olympic Park firework show. There’s no better place to celebrate the Fourth of July in Atlanta.” It is from 7-10pm on Friday night. Click here to find out more.

The Braves are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks this holiday weekend! What’s more American than baseball? Hot dogs, chanting and homeruns! This would be a fun way to enjoy the weekend with friends or family! Click here to view the Braves schedule.

Here is a great website that lists many more events in our area. http://www.atlanta.net/events/seasonal/fourth-of-july/

Let us know how you will celebrate or if you have any events you would like for us to post. Remember, we are always here to help with your storage needs.

Have a safe holiday weekend,

Your friends at Storage World

Happy Veterans Day
