Celebrate the Holidays in the Atlanta Area

Holiday events in Atlanta
Stone Mountain Christmas

With the recent chilly weather and snow, it is really beginning to feel like Christmas! The Atlanta area has many events from outdoor skating rinks to concerts to great light displays to celebrate the holiday, with most of the outdoor light displays open until the beginning of the New Year.

The Atlanta area has so many great holiday light displays; it is hard to choose favorite ones that you should visit! The largest outdoor holiday display is the Callaway Gardens Fantasy in Lights in Pine Mountain, GA, a 1.5-2 hours drive from Atlanta.  The resort is transformed into a winter wonderland with over 8 million lights displayed in 15 different scenes. The holiday event has been voted one of the world’s top 10 places to see holiday lights! Stone Mountain Park is one again hosting “Stone Mountain Christmas”. There are nightly Christmas parades with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Bumble, the Abominable Snow Monster. The holiday event has fireworks, light displays, with over 2 million lights, festive music, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus and much more. The Atlanta Motor Speedway has the “Gifts of Lights” display, which turns the speedway in the biggest drive-through Christmas light park in the area. There is also a Christmas Village for hot chocolate and photos with Santa. Turner Field turns into the Global Winter Wonderland from the end of November through the holiday season with special entertainment events, concerts and more!

You can walk through a twinkling winter wonderland created in the gardens. The Georgia Aquarium has the “Festival of the Season” to December 24th. The galleries are decorated in a winter holiday theme and you could also catch a glimpse of Scuba Claus! Christmas in Atlanta wouldn’t be the same without touching Macy’s Pink Pig in Lenox Square. This is a 50 year tradition that also has a children’s area, a train ride and more. A portion of the proceeds from the event goes to the Children’s Health Care of Atlanta.

For those looking for more traditional and cultural entertainment, the Atlanta Symphony Pops Orchestra has holiday shows through December 22nd. The Celtic Women Christmas Celebration will be in Atlanta on 12/22 at Atlanta Symphony Hall. There is also the Messiah Sing-Along at Roswell United Methodist Church.

Santa’s Closet at Storage World

Santa's Closet specials at Storage World

The holiday shopping season is in full swing. It started off with the bigger box stores, like K-mart, Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy, opening up on Thanksgiving evening with their Black Friday sales and then continued through Cyber Monday. The Christmas shopping season is shortened this year and Christmas is soon approaching. However, you need a place to store all of your great holiday gifts and keep them away from the prying eyes of family members. Do you have enough room in your home to store larger items such as furniture, exercise equipment, bicycles or even large electronics? These larger gifts are harder to hide until Christmas Day. Some people store holiday gifts at nearby friends or relative’s home (like my parents), while others try to hide Christmas presents from snooping family members. What if there was a place that you can hide the items and not worry about their safety and security until you are ready to deliver them on Christmas Day?

Self storage is a great option for storing holiday gifts that you do not have room for at your home. Many self storage operations have created holiday specials called “Santa’s Closet” to give special discounts for renters over the holiday season. The specials are focused on the smaller sized storage units, 5×5, that are great places to store holiday gifts. Storage World  is offering our own “Santa’s Closet” special at our 3 facilities in the Atlanta area: Decatur/South DeKalb,  Jonesboro/South Atlanta,  and Stockbridge/McDonough. For the holidays, Storage World is offering rent on a 5×5 storage unit at half price. The rates vary per location. Stop in to your closest Storage World facility now to find out more information! Storage World offers month-by-month rental solutions, so you can store your gifts for the rest of the holiday season!

Happy Holidays from Storage World!

Storage World Shares Help and Hope for the Holiday Season

Storage WorldThe holidays are a time of giving. Storage World is helping members of our community whose home was devastated by fire a few weeks ago. Corey and Latoya McCorkle and their 3 daughters, from Acworth, lost everything in a fire during the week of Thanksgiving. The fire started in the fireplace or the chimney and spread quickly throughout the home. The family all escaped unharmed, but Latoya was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The family lost everything in the fire including clothing, identification, photos, cell phones and appliances.

The First United Methodist Church of Acworth is collecting tax-deductible donations to help the family recover from the devastating loss. Storage World is also taking donations for the family at our three locations: Decatur/South DeKalb, Jonesboro/South Atlanta, and Stockbridge/McDonough. Our Decatur location at 3122 Panthersville Rd will be taking donations for the family in lieu of donations for aid for the Philippines this holiday season. The manager of the facility, Shenikqa, is friends of the McCorkle family.

All cash donations made at our facilities will be matched by Storage World up to $1000.00. Thank you for your help to this family in need.

Storage World Raises Funds for Emergency Relief for the Philippines

Samaritan's Purse-Philippines Assistance

The Philippines were hit extremely hard on November 8th by Typhoon Haiyan. The typhoon was the most powerful storm ever recorded with sustaining winds over 150 miles per hour and wind gusts up to 235 miles per hour! The storm surge from the storm moved up to a mile inland wreaking havoc and destruction in its path. There have been over 5,000 recorded fatalities with many many more people still missing. Over 580,000 people in the country have lost their homes and have been displaced by the storm. These are sobering statistics. The country has been receiving worldwide aid from the United States and many other countries and organizations, but it will take much more aid to get the Philippine people back up on their feet.

Storage World is partnering with Samaritan’s Purse in raising money to buy emergency relief supplies for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Storage World will be accepting donation at their 3 locations in Decatur/South DeKalb, Stockbridge/McDonough, and Jonesboro/South Atlanta through December and then match the donations up to $1,000. All donations are tax-deductible.

Samaritan’s Purse  sent a 54 team Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to the Philippines one week after the typhoon. The team included a medical team and water, nutrition and logistics experts. The focus of their relief effort is in the Bogo City Region, Cebo Island and Bantayan Island. They distributed over 8,800 emergency supply kits (including food and hygiene products), over 9,500 protective tarps and over 1800 blankets. The have also distributed community water filters. There also have been cargo plans filled with much needed items such as medical supplies and tents, mosquito nets and generators. The team has also been working with local health officials to meet any critical medical need.

Samaritan’s Purse is a non-profit, non-denominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. The organization was founded in 1970. Along with assisting in disaster relief around the world., they also work with local, regional and national organizations such as: Children’s Heart Project, Greta Home and Academy, Operation Christian Child, Operation Heal our Patriots, the Greatest Journey, US Disaster Response and World Medical Mission. You can help with their mission by making a donation through their website or volunteering.
